"The Didgeridoo Phenomenon"  /  Chapter 5
Joshua Forner:
Didjeridus between Tradition and Mass Production

Joshua is a PhD student at the "Northern Territory University's Key Centre for Tropical Wildlife Management," in Darwin. He conducted research on economic and environmental impacts of the didgeridoo industry in the Katherine region of the Northern Territory.

Joshua describes vividly the "harvest" methods of many mass producers, in contrast to the traditional production methods of the Jawoyn people. He deals with the consequences of commercial production didgeridoos and identifies ways to protect the Aboriginal people from exploitation.
